How Do You Know Your Agent Is Doing a Good Job

When it comes to choosing a real estate agent, you obviously want to choose someone that’s knowledgeable about what they do, but you also want someone who will be there every step of the way.  Today, more and more people are joining the field of real estate as the market picks up, which leaves buyers and sellers with a tough decision when it comes to picking the best agent for the job.  Once you find an agent, make sure they are taking care of your needs.  Here are some things that your agent should be doing for you.

  •  Constant Communication.  Be sure you tell your agent the best way to communicate with you either by phone email or text messaging.  When you’re in the process of buying or selling a home, your agent should return calls within an acceptable period of time if not sooner.

  • Being a Real Expert.  If your agent never disagrees with you during any part of your transaction, they are probably more interested in their own agenda than yours.  If the agent you choose really is an expert, they will not fail to give you honest, well researched, and well- reasoned advice even if it takes longer to buy or sell a home.

  • Going Above and Beyond.  Your agent should be using all of the tools and resources available to them.  This means taking top notch pictures or giving advice on staging if they are selling your home.  For buyers, they need to send you homes every day or let you know there is nothing new on the market.

  • No Pressure .While giving advice, they should never pressure you to do anything that you are not comfortable with.  They are there to inform and educate you.

  • Follow Up.  An agent’s job is not finished on the date of the home transfer.  Your agent should call you after the sale to make sure everything is okay.  Even weeks after the sale, they show they care by following up.

Finding a real estate agent that meets your needs and goes above and beyond is very important in the home buying and selling process.  Don’t settle for an agent that puts your interests or well-being on the back burner.
